spatial programming
prerequisite: As-builts
This is simply how we organize the activities, functions, and priorities of your space. A floor plan is essentially how we show and discuss our ideas about how your space should serve you.
We work by floor, so one deliverable would be the spatial programming for one floor. If you have 4 floors, and spaces that you want us to consider on all floors, then you would need this deliverable 4 times.
-
For this deliverable, we cannot work within the confines of one room. It is important when planning how to prioritize and organize within the space, that we understand the broader whole, which includes egress, access, traffic paths, best use, and more.
If it is just one room that you want to focus on, we restrict our work to that room in the selections and specifications phase.
We do not require that you allow us to decorate entire floors. We only require that we have access to the information necessary through this phase for planning and organization purposes.
-
Once we receive notice that you have selected a deliverable, we send you a form you to fill out that prompts you to provide the information we know we would need, and leaves room for you to provide any additional information that you want to share with us.
As we work, we may reach out with further requests, and RFI, or Request for Information.
If from the initial form, you do not feel you have sufficiently conveyed your goals for either your project, or this deliverable, we encourage you to contact us so that we can give you our ear. For quick or direct questions, an email or text might be sufficient. If more is needed, we may suggest that you use one of your deliverables to book a consultation. These are conducted via phone or video chat, your preference.
We include one free consultation with every subscription (not every deliverable). The reason we do this is because not only do we understand the desire to communicate and explore ideas that you can’t easily translate over email, but we also benefit from that communication. It gives a chance to really hear what you hope for.

Before we start deciding what goes where we need to know what are we working with, the as-builts are an essential part of our process and it allows us to see the space and understand it. It’s also very important to have accurate dimensions that tell us exactly how is the existing layout, and where each room is.
